MOHAB Required PreTrek Programs

Courses to be completed at base camp prior to going in the backcountry.

Lay of the Land - This program is part of your crew's first exposure to the Boone and Crockett Club, the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch (TRMR), and the surrounding landscape. A historical introduction of the Club's mission and vision, the purpose of the TRMR and the conservation education program will be presented. Also covered is an introduction to the Rocky Mountain Front local communities and culture, wildlife and the habitat types found in the ecosystem.

 
Map, Compass & Trek Selection - Gather with your crew, crew leader and trek guide to review map adn compass skills and prepare for selecting MOHAB trek route. Learn how to determine which map best fits your travel needs by understanding how to read the map, map scale, declination and elevational profile.  Once your crew has determined trek route a trek itinerary form will be filled out, reviewed with all crew members and handed into the camp director as required.  Once trek route is determined and trek itinerary is filed, all crew members will work together to conduct the required shakedown.

Be Bear Aware  - Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem has both black and grizzly bears. The objective of this training is to ensure scouts know what to do to reduce human bear conflicts when in the backcountry, and to provide biological information specific to bears in Montana.

Leave No Trace Camping
This training provides participants with hands-on training in Leave No Trace skills and techniques specific to the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex and surrounding lands when camping.
